How Covid-19 is Impacting the SPCA

The past few weeks have proven to be a scary and uncertain time in our country and for the entire world. However, know that the safety and well-being of the animals in our care are our top priority, in addition to keeping our employees and volunteers safe. In light of the current situation, we’ve made some temporary changes to the way we are doing things company-wide.

UPDATE: April 1, 2020:
Thursday, April 2nd will be the last day that we will be accepting appointments for adoptions or fosters for the next 30 days. If you have already scheduled an appointment to meet a specific animal after that, please call us at 321-567-3615. Our adoption center will be fully staffed during this time to care for the animals already here, but we will be closed to the public. The outpouring of support we’ve received from our community, opening their homes to foster, has totally overwhelmed us. We are grateful to each and every one of you. We’ll still be posting updates on our Facebook page as we can, and continuing story time.

The Titusville Thrift store is closed until further notice, and our Merritt Island store is now permanently closed. We are using this time to move into our new Melbourne store, and we’ll have a grand opening date at a later time. The closing of these stores will be a significant loss of income, despite the fact that we still must continue to feed and care for the animals in the adoption center. If you’d like to contribute to their care during this difficult time, we’d be grateful. Donations can be made here or by mailing a check to 455 Cheney Hwy, Titusville, FL 32780.

Since we are losing income to support our adoption centers by closing the thrift stores, we’ve set up a new online fundraiser. For a $25 donation, we’ll draw your pet. Here’s the catch…some of us are great artists, but most of us aren’t. That’s the fun of this project. You might get a great portrait, but you probably won’t. The best part is that for every donation we receive, one of our amazing volunteers will be matching it! Your gift can help us double the funds. For more information, check out the Facebook post here.

If you or someone you know is having a hard time feeding your pets due to loss of income during this difficult time, please contact our adoption center at 321-567-3615 and we can assist you.

We hope that you are all following us on Facebook where we post daily updates about what’s going on and how you can (safely) get involved. We’ll get through this if we all stick together – from a safe distance!

PLEASE STAY HOME. The sooner we all follow the direction of our governor, the sooner we can all get back to a normal life. We’ll see you on the other side!

Finally, we want to remind everyone that there is no evidence that we can catch Covid-19 from nor give it to our pets. So please continue to love and spoil your fur babies. They need us as much as we need them during this difficult time. Here are a few links for reading: CDC HSUS Animal Sheltering:
